The timescale for the project was three years. Its chronology is the following: <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-heading\" id=\"2020-1\">2020<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-background wp-block-list\" style=\"background-color:#e1f7d5;font-size:18px\"><li><strong>Theoretical framework <\/strong><\/li><li><strong> Preparation <\/strong> for fieldwork<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-heading\" id=\"2021-1\">2021<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"has-background wp-block-list\" style=\"background-color:#e1f7d5;font-size:18px\"><li><strong>Fieldwork <\/strong> 4 steps:<ul><li>History, development and symbols of the club<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2020\"><strong>2020<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:80%\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\" style=\"font-size:18px\">This was the year the project started up. To do this we set ourselves two tasks. Firstly, to create a <strong>theoretical framework<\/strong> for the project. In this respect, we reviewed the literature generated in recent years concerning the triad of <strong>youth, leisure and Basque <\/strong> in search of <strong>concepts<\/strong>, notions and ideas that might be useful for the <em>Euskara Kirolkide<\/em> project, and we put this information into an in-depth report. In this report we set out to <strong>incorporate ideas<\/strong> worked on in other contexts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<p class=\"has-link-color wp-elements-38d5c877025c4cf52ef0626dc04dcc87\" style=\"font-size:14px\">To read about the theoretical framework of the <em>Euskara Kirolkide<\/em> project, click <a href=\"https:\/\/soziolinguistika.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/EuskaraKirolkide_2020_TXOSTENA_OinarriTeorikoa.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:80%\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\" style=\"font-size:18px\">We also began to prepare <strong>the fieldwork <\/strong> to be done from 2021 onwards. The main task in this phase was to <strong>choose the sports clubs<\/strong> to take part in the project. This selection process involved the following steps: 1) defining the profiles of the clubs, 2) drawing up the list of candidate clubs, 3) consulting the clubs and presenting the project, and 4) drawing up the final list of clubs taking part. The primary aim of the latter was to start trying out the theoretical definition of a safe space established in 2020 with agents in the sports clubs. Specifically, the aim was to find out about the everyday practices and experiences, feelings and thoughts of the management, staff and employees of the sports clubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\" style=\"font-size:18px\">To do this, <strong>four steps<\/strong> were defined and taking care to ensure coherence between them, the aims of each of these steps were defined and worked on in different ways.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:80%\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"lehen-urratsa-klubaren-historia-ibilbidea-sinboloak\"><strong>FIRST STEP<\/strong>: <strong>History, development and symbols of the club<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:80%\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\" style=\"font-size:18px\">In this first step of the fieldwork, the focus was on the <strong>foundations of each club<\/strong>. By foundations we mean <strong>the origin, development<\/strong> and features of the club. We wanted to grasp the goals and desires that led to the club being set up, <strong>the essence of the club<\/strong> and its <strong>peculiarities<\/strong>. We analysed what the club consists of and &#8220;What makes it a club&#8221; (also what makes it &#8220;special&#8221; or gives it personality). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\" style=\"font-size:18px\">On this basis we wanted to see or identify the role language or languages have played and continue to play in this history, development and personality, in particular the role played by Basque in both past and present. And Basque, languages and communication in general form part of this context. We were therefore interested to see where, when and how people relate in Basque, languages and communication and the practices associated with them linked in with other facets and activities of the club.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<p class=\"has-link-color wp-elements-7ab9b4ea01b82d753def1aed2917895c\" style=\"font-size:14px\">The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1080\/1472586X.2014.887266\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">article <\/a><\/strong> by Sarah Pink and Kerstin Leder was taken as a point of reference.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:80%\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\" style=\"font-size:18px\">With the aim of exploring these aspects, we contacted the people in charge of the clubs and requested <strong>guided tours<\/strong> to get to know better the &#8220;club house&#8221; and also its immediate context (neighbourhood, town, city or whatever). <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow Practices, routines, relations and emotions<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:80%\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\" style=\"font-size:18px\">In this step we wanted to get to know the clubs&#8217; <strong> everyday life<\/strong>: to see the club &#8220;working&#8221; and discover its <strong>practices, routines, relations and affections<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Gaztedi RT - entrenamendua\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/594501248?h=19450e8d2d&amp;dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\" style=\"font-size:18px\">In the words of Sarah Pink and Kerstin Leder, to conduct ethnographic research into the everyday, <strong>one must be on the spot<\/strong> &#8211; and this is just what we did: &#8220;To research the everyday ethnographically we need to be &#8216;in there&#8217; and part of the very flow of life that we are researching.&#8221; (Pink &amp; Leder 2014, 146). As they stress, it is not the same to see for oneself the practices that go on (in the club) as to listen to descriptions by research subjects, because many things may go unsaid, involuntarily forgotten or ignored by the respondents (ibid, 147): <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;areas of everyday life that are \u2018hidden\u2019, never usually spoken about and therefore under-acknowledged and under-researched.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<p class=\"has-link-color wp-elements-f12306a6e06964c1a29889f0f5c2ecb7\" style=\"font-size:14px\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/discovery.ucl.ac.uk\/id\/eprint\/1557597\/1\/Leder%20Mackley_PinkLederMackleyVisualStudiesrevised.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>article <\/strong><\/a> by Sarah Pink and Kerstin Leder was taken as a point of reference.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:80%\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\" style=\"font-size:18px\">As well as recording what goes on in the clubs, we asked how and why it went on. Moreover, we looked into how all that goes on in the club is related to its personality and the way it sees sport. It is also interesting to observe the experiences, emotions (of those involved) and affective feelings associated with these practices. The importance of communication is highly obvious, and must be seen as part of the club. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\" style=\"font-size:18px\">We analysed two levels or types of communication related to clubs&#8217; activities: (1) <strong>internal communication<\/strong> between club members; (2) <strong>external communication<\/strong> aimed at the public and supporters in general.
